Assassins
Ask an Assassin and they'll tell you, "We're the good guys." Specific goals might vary from one to another, but they'll also tell you the most important thing is "free will" or "choice" or something along those lines. Assassins value personal freedoms and the acceptance of the choices one makes. Absolute control, even for someone's "own good," isn't a phrase you'll find in their vocabulary.
They are opposed to Templars in nearly every way. The ongoing war is usually battled underground, in covert operations and guerilla warfare, but occasionally spills over into major, visible conflict.
Templars
Ask a Templar and they'll tell you, "We're the good guys." Again, specific goals may vary from one to the next, but the ultimate goal remains the same. Order. For peace, mankind must have order, possibly strict, freedom restricting order. They see no issue in compelling an individual to behave in a certain way if it benefits the whole. In fact, they see no issue in compelling entire groups of people to behave in certain ways for the good of the whole. Absolute control is, in their minds, a necessary evil.
They are opposed to Assassins in nearly every way. The ongoing war is usually battled underground, in covert operations and largely dependent on the Templar's ability to discredit their enemies through media infuence, but occasionally spills over into major, visible conflict.
Erudito
Very little is known about Erudito. Though it's been determined there are multiple members of the organization (if it can be called such), there exists no specific information on those members or how they are organized. They have been helpful to Templars and Assassins both, passing out information and advice to both sides. They have also been unhelpful to both sides and are known to occasionally spread misinformation to each faction as well as to the public as a whole. Their goals and purpose are unclear. The only thing you can know for sure is this: if Erudito contacts you directly, it's both important information and important to take that information with several grains of salt.
Other factions include: The Hermeticists (believed by all sides to have died out in the late 1800s), the Masons (a generally "neutral ground" organization with members who are Assassin, Templar, and neither), and of course, civilians, who have no association with any of the major factions.
